Hey ambitious bookkeepers!

By popular request, we’ve decided to air a summit presentation I did with Josie Parr, at her Profitable Lifestyle Firm Summit. I’m talking about crafting deliverables that matter for your clients. If you’d like to see the presentation slides, head over to my YouTube Channel!

Now let's dive into some highlights!

How This Episode Came to Be

So, last summer, the amazing Josie Parr put on the Profitable Lifestyle Firm Summit, and I had the opportunity to present. I took to Instagram to source a topic because, honestly, the options were endless, and I wanted to get it just right. We landed on crafting deliverables, and I think it meshes perfectly with year-end planning. Seriously, who doesn't want to wow their clients and maybe even upsell a bit?

What’s in This Episode?

In this episode, I dig into the nitty-gritty of KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) knowing they’re something every client can benefit from. I chat about adding value, which, let’s be real, sometimes sounds like the vaguest buzzword ever. But don’t worry, I made sure to break it down for you! I also dive into those core financial reports — yes, the ones we’re all used to but can definitely make a bit sexier.

Behind the Mic: A Little About Me

For those new around here, I’m Serena Shoup, a CPA, a mama to three, and since 2017, the proud runner of a virtual bookkeeping biz. I’m all about showing bookkeepers and accountants that there’s so much more than that cubicle life. If strategy and growth is where you’re at, you’re definitely in the right space.

Why Crafting Deliverables is Essential

There’s a cloud of fear creeping in from the likes of AI and commoditization in our industry. But here’s the kicker, there’s a way to stand out — by crafting deliverables that matter. Becoming that indispensable advisor to clients sets us apart from the sea of bookkeepers.

The Four Deliverables You Need

  1. Communication: Over-deliver on this. Answer those emails, follow up diligently, and adopt their communication preferences. You’ll be surprised how far this takes you!
  2. Key Reports: Hello, financial clarity! Our top five must-have reports include the trusty P&L, balance sheet, statement of cash flows, and aging reports. Plus, throw in a little pizzazz with percentages and context.
  3. KPIs: Keep it simple but meaningful. Think revenue by product, monthly profits, operating expenses, and net profit margins. Monitor, analyze, and guide your clients.
  4. Meetings & Overviews: Whether it’s a quick summary, a video recap, or a full-on meeting, presenting numbers in a digestible way is game-changing.

Wrapping Up

Folks, adding these in doesn't have to be an overhaul. Start small, integrate gradually, and watch how you can redefine the value of your services! Implementing these deliverables is not just about increasing your bottom line; it's about making a real impact.

Let’s Get Social

I’m always just an Instagram DM away. Whether it's questions, feedback, or just a hello, I love connecting with fellow bookkeepers and accountants.

Catch the episode if you haven't yet, and remember, your ambitious goals are more than valid, and I’m here cheering you on at every step!
